Meet The Hanchett Park Living Historicals

We were lucky enough to get to spend the evening in the Rose Garden with this fun bunch, the Hanchett Park Living Historicals, a group of historical costumers. Most of the group are members of the Bay Area Costumers Guild and they are dedicated to preserving history through their attire and historical events.  Be sure to give them some extra loud cheers when they pass by because all of these historic outfits are lovingly handmade with careful attention to historic detailing. And although they don't make all of the undergarments, they were quick to point out the importance of this foundational element on the overall final look of each piece.

Their first walk in the parade: 2011, under the name “South Bay Ladies’s Tea Guild” a group founded by Elizabeth Urbach in 2003.  As the group grew and more friends joined they went through several name changes before landing on Living Historicals.  Each year they prepare for the parade with a theme such as “Prohibition” or “Suffragettes”.  This year's theme: “Picnics”.  Wondering if they get hot in those outfits? Yes, but at the end of the parade, they will be met by a potluck and some refreshing drinks prepared by past participants and hosted by Cynthia Barnes.

So, keep your eyes out for them and we hope you enjoy this fun group as much as we do!
